Next gathering: this Saturday, 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM

Come sit,
let's talk over coffee.

Coffee started in Ethiopia, where a cup is never just a drink. It's a reason to sit down. We're borrowing that idea for this block. Whether you're carrying a heavy heart or just want a neighbor to listen, there is a chair out for you.

Three simple things

That's the whole of it

Show up

We set up outside at 2130 E Randolph Rd, so there is no door to knock on. Just walk up. No fees, no forms, no judgment.

The cup

Someone hands you a warm cup before asking you anything at all.

The ear

Talk about life, ask for advice, or vent. What's said at the table stays there.

An idea worth borrowing

Poured three times, on purpose

Coffee was first grown and brewed in Ethiopia, and the ceremony there, ቡና ጠጡ (buna tetu), takes hours on purpose. Three rounds have been used to settle disputes, sit with people in grief, and talk someone out of a decision they'd regret. We're borrowing the idea, not claiming the tradition. Different backgrounds, same table.

አቦል

Abol · first cup

Arrival. Nobody asks why you came. You sit and warm your hands.

ቶና

Tona · second cup

The middle. Where the truth comes out, usually sideways at first.

በረካ

Bereka · the blessing

You leave lighter. What was said is held, not repeated.

Why we do this

We are followers of Christ

This is one small way to pass along the love and care He has shown us. We believe God listens to anyone who calls on Him, and that He helps. So we try to do the same thing on a smaller scale, one Saturday and one cup at a time.

Nobody here will preach at you or ask what you believe. Come exactly as you are. If you'd like us to pray with you, just say so. If you'd rather only have coffee and conversation, that's just as welcome.

Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.
Galatians 6:2
